These chests are fashioned solely of wood and "iron" (actually, wrought steel). They are well-fitted with hinged strap assemblies that wrap completely around the profile to be fastened quickly and gracefully with "lever latches" that snap shut firmly, enclosing the chest in two solid bands of steel. All latches, handholds and the central hasp are formed in the blacksmith shop, ready to come together with a solid wood trunk in the distinctive "pirate chest" shape with a curved, true coopered top made in the adjoining woodshop.

The hardware is fastened onto the wood box with 80 bolts of many sizes, all visibly similar since the bolts have hand-forged heads in keeping with the style of the chest. The handhold frames are fashioned of 3/16" strap, forming a cross with flared ends, each holding a 5" x1/2" iron ring to grip easily in one hand.

On the top center facet of the coopered top, each chest bears a hammer-forged stamped medallion with our company name and a unique serial number. We hope that eventual owners will discern the pride and craftmanship we put into producing each chest.
